Weathering the Employment and Printing Shipments Data
The employment report was better than the cable channel talking heads thought it would be. Printing shipments continued their unfortunate relationship with economic growth. The Postal Service continues a summer sale initiative that only fat cats can like.

Dr.
Joe Recommends
Econospinning,
by Gene Epstein. If you really want to dig into economic reports and get the
sense of what they really say and what others think they say, this is the book
for you. Okay, it's for geeks, at least at the start. The first eleven chapters
are about the unemployment report and how the press reports about it. The rest
of the book digs into more general issues about the press, columnists, and
examples of how data have been misinterpreted, sometimes with nefarious purpose
in mind. Someone asked me what they should read to become develop their
analytical skills. This is the book for that when it comes to economics.
Epstein works for Barron's, where his work has been quite impressive, and most
every week has a unique perspective that makes one think.

Praise for "Renewing the Printing Industry"
“Should be required reading for
every printer in every country. Dr. Webb lays out several strategies for
printers to really become part of their customers’ communications process, and
he’s right on the money. His rant about why the ‘rebranding’ of print will
never and has never worked is a tasty nugget of truth if ever I read one!”
