March 23, 2006 --Regarding your premium feature article on the upcoming Printfest event, there are some factual inaccuracies that should be corrected.
Graphic Arts Show Company purchased the Gutenberg Festival from Mr. Jacobson over 4 years ago, and held four events successfully subsequent to that before postponing the 2006 event. The 2005 event was held, as planned. There was nothing "prompt" about the lack of a Gutenberg 2006.
These inaccuracies paint a less than flattering picture of the event and of GASC. We offered a viable marketplace for vendors and attendees both for those four years, while creating a more businesslike, safer and more productive atmosphere for both to transact business. Prior to our ownership, children were allowed on the show floor amongst displays of running industrial equipment, and there were vendors present that had no connection to our industry at all, hawking everything from massages to pots and pans for the kitchen. We created an environment conducive to doing business, and for three years this approach found favor with both exhibitors and attendees.
Please make the factual corrections in an upcoming edition of WhatTheythink, one that would more accurately characterize our firm and our event.
