June 16, 2006 -- As a new owner of a franchised quick printer (2 years) I find Andy's analysis for this industry's future spot on. Because the print industry is going through such a tremendous change is exactly why I ventured into this field, being of the opinion that rapid change usually brings opportunity.
The business model of the 70s will not work, which is why I've been trying to market our services in a broader sense - becoming our customers "business" partners and not just their "printer".
We need to catch the outsource wave, since in my opinion (and short experience) I've noted that this industry is far behind others.
