MAN Roland Inc. — Booth #1245

About MAN Roland

MAN Roland Druckmaschinen AG is the world's second largest printing press manufacturer and the world's market leader in web press and newspaper printing technology. ( Every third newspaper produced in the world is printed on a MAN Roland press. In fact every day, 330 million people read daily newspapers that were printed on MAN Roland presses. ) With main facilities in Offenbach and Augsburg, Germany, MAN Roland generates annual sales of over $2.1 billion. Exports account for 75% of the figure. MAN Roland produces web and sheetfed offset presses as well as digital printing systems for commercial printers, newspaper printers, publishers, packaging producers, quick printers and in-plant shops. In North America, MAN Roland Inc. operates a network of five regional sales and service facilities, staffed by over 250 employees. The company is a subsidiary of MAN Aktiengesellschaft, Munich. The MAN Group is one of Europe's leading suppliers of capital goods, with 62,000 employees whose expertise ranges from commercial vehicle manufacturing to engineering. Its annual sales total $19.8 billion.

MAN Roland invents DirectDrive

DirectDrive decouples the plate cylinder from the press’ main drive. The result: all of the plates on a ROLAND 700 with DirectDrive can be changed simultaneously, instead of one at a time, considerably slashing makeready time. Wash-up routines can be completed during plate changing for additional efficiency. That, in effect, reduces the time it takes to plate a press to zero minutes.

printcom and printservices provide total press support

MAN Roland is notching up its benchmark service, parts and support programs to launch printcom and printservices in North America. The integrated programs bundle all the benefits MAN Roland press users need to keep their pressrooms profitable now and in the future. Working together, printcom and printservices cover certified consumables, maintenance solutions, emergency response, upgrades, remote control repairs, and business-building enhancements

ROLAND 500: big advantages in the 3/4 size

The ROLAND 500 takes the extended 29-inch sheetfed format to the next level of functionality, expanding market opportunities for printers who run it. The system sets new production standards, running at an industry-leading 18,000 sheets per hour. The 500 lets users grow their production and marketing possibilities beyond the traditional limits of half-size machines.

EnergyLink protects & serves

Developed by MAN Roland and POWERVAR, EnergyLink connects between a facility’s power source and its presses to purge the electrical supply of any anomalies before they can affect production. hat results in longer life for a press’ critical electronics and its digitally controlled motors, while enhancing the consistency of print quality.

Inline sheeters make world premiere

MAN Roland now offers a complete range of Maxson sheeters for every model in its large-format ROLAND 900 line. The innovation is making its global premiere at PRINT, provisioning a ROLAND 900 XXL in continuous demonstrations. Because rolled stock is less expensive than cut sheets, printers can significantly reduce their paper costs with a Maxson sheeter. The equipment also enables them to custom-cut the paper to fit each job, so waste is reduced significantly.

ROLAND 900 XXL provides big advantages

The centerpiece of the MAN Roland exhibit is a 65-inch version of the pressmaker’s extra-extra large press — the ROLAND 900 XXL. It’s the biggest and most productive press operating at PRINT 05 and is making its North American premiere. A six-color-with-coater configuration, the 900 XXL demonstrates the advantages of combining high levels of automation with a super-sized press format.

ROTOMAN delivers CIM solutions

MAN Roland’s ROTOMAN line of 16- and 24-page web presses cost-effectively bring all the productive advantages of Computer Integrated Manufacturing (CIM) into commercial pressrooms. ROTOMAN combines the advancements of MAN Roland engineering, the agility of the PECOM press operating system and the efficiency of Printnet networking to provide a significant competitive advantage to the printers who run it.

TelePresence wins a 2005 InterTech

A remote press diagnosis system from MAN Roland that automates key aspects of press repair and maintenance has won a 2005 InterTech Technology Award from PIA/GATF. Called TelePresence, the device works on all Printnet PECOM-equipped ROLAND sheetfed presses, allowing a printer to notify MAN Roland of a service need without even picking up a telephone.

LITHOMAN IV accelerates web printers’ businesses

LITHOMAN IV, MAN Roland’s high volume, high quality print solution, is helping North American printers accelerate their businesses. The press features web widths from 38 to 81 inches, with formats of 32, 48, 64 and 72 pages, and speeds up to 45,000 iph or 2,800 fpm. LITHOMAN’s Printnet PECOM operating, networking and automation system is being demonstrated.

ROLAND 700 sets press customization record

The ROLAND 700 is available in more configurations and versions than any other sheetfed press in the industry, according to a recent statistical analysis by MAN Roland, which identified 3,150 versions of the 41-inch press. An eight-color 700 perfector with coating is operating at MAN Roland’s Technology Center. Showgoers can see it in action by signing up for a tour at exhibit #1245. PrintEasy includes highly versatile inks formulated for use on specific grades of paper, and includes a total package of fountain solutions, blankets and technical service processes that reinforce Sun Chemical's commitment to creating value and high-quality service.

Solar™, SunShine™, Challenge™ and UltraPrint™

PrintEasy inks utilize new resin technology so the four separate ink profiles Solar™, SunShine™, Challenge™ and UltraPrint™ are fit for use on wider platforms of paper stock and printing applications. "These inks can help the most discriminating printer reach optimum press performance on substrates ranging from newsprint to high basis weight enamels," said Mark Levin, president, Sun Chemical North American Publication Inks.

RotoPure™

The newest addition to Sun Chemical’s highly regarded RotoPure family of lamination inks, the HS series offers high pigmentation for maximum color strength. Developed for printing on films that require excellent adhesion and high-lamination bonds and formulated without the use of TDI or tin, RotoPure™ HS also balances health and environmental concerns, making it ideal for stand-up pouches, retort and other flexible packaging applications. RotoPure™ HS features excellent printability at high speeds, and can be laminated with adhesives or primed extrusion processes.

FlexoPure

FlexoPure is a general-purpose lamination ink system, which can be used on a wide latitude of flexible packaging films. Because FlexoPure has excellent solvent release and very low GCs, it makes an excellent ink choice for food packaging. It can be used for line and screen printing on a wide range of aniloxes, and it laminates well using 100% solids, solvent or water-based adhesives.

SunSharp 1190

SunSharp 1190 can be used to print non-laminated applications such as bags for bread or frozen foods, news mailers and some bottle wraps. SunSharp 1190 includes high-strength process and spot colors. These inks have good ice-water crinkle resistance and provide high gloss.

Solaris

Sun Chemical will feature Solaris, its new brand of products for the narrow web market, at Print 05. Solaris was established to meet the demanding requirements of the fast-growing narrow web markets by supplying a complete line-up of inks and coatings for the varied print processes, including water-based and UV flexo, rotary screen and letterpress. Solaris also emphasizes timely service, with a team of experts available when and where you need them.

One new product Solaris will introduce at Print 05 is Aquaverse™, a highly stable, water-based flexo ink designed to provide sharper printing with fewer press wash-ups over long runs.

Pressroom Consumables

Rycoline will exhibit blankets and founts designed specifically to improve performance when used in conjunction with other Sun Chemical products and are available directly from Rycoline, which was acquired by Sun Chemical in 2004. For more information: www.sunchemical.com/print05
