Post-Session Q&A (Jay Roberts, Techjet Imaging)
Q: Are you able to re-use (print over) the flat substrates with the UV print process?
A: To a certain extent, yes. It depends on the amount of ink coverage and what type of product we re-using. We will typically re-use acylic and glass, but with the forethought that we actually have pre-applied vinyl adhesive to the substrate, pull off the vinyl and then re-use the end product which may be a special die cut or unique shaped product.
Q: With your packaging prototyping, do you do the cutting and scoring in-house and if so, what equipment do you use?
A: We are outsourcing currently ... we will bring in a digital router, such as a Lund , in the future. As with everything, we are realistic about the ROI on each product. We work with a company as a partner—they bring us many jobs and we bring them many jobs. It is crucial to have a partnership with vendors
Q: What about Fine Art Reproduction ? What percentage of the market would you say this represents
A: Depending on the area and client base, it's huge. We do not do much in regards to our total output. It is a funny market—as a vendor, you must be very patient at the outset with the artists. Once you have established a good working rapport, it becomes much easier. Color is everything ... next is quality. Quality in (scanning) means quality out (printing).
Q: Do you use any type of job management software and what is it? Do you have a pdf workflow?
A: We use QuickBooks from start to finish. Our RIPs on the other hand, are Wasatch, but that is out of consistency rather then anything else.
Q: In regards to colour management, do you prefer that customers use the CMYK colour space vs RGB?
A: For us it does not matter ... I prefer CMYK, but we find RGB to have a certain value as well ... color call outs ... PMS values, become more important for us. In our market, understanding the color and color space of each specific material is as important.
