Experts Share Advice and Direction in Event Broadcast on Earth Day 2008

April 29, 2008 -- Lexington, Kentucky USA – WhatTheyThink today reported that more than 300 industry professionals registered for the free printing industry webinar, Certifications as Part of Your Sustainable Business Strategy, which was led by industry expert Gail Nickel-Kailing, Managing Editor of Going Green, WhatTheyThink’s new special interest section. The event was sponsored by Océ North America and was broadcast on Tuesday, April 22nd, 2008, Earth Day.

The event archive can be accessed here

“Every day the newspapers announce a new sustainability initiative undertaken by yet another major corporation; “green” has become the latest corporate slogan. The printing industry is not immune to the same marketing fervor; but to provide credibility behind the declarations of good stewardship and environmental sensitivity, companies are looking to third party certifications. The Earth Day event laid out steps service providers can take to implement their certification strategies,” said Randy Davidson, President, WhatTheyThink. “As a company Océ has employed sustainable practices for more than 130 years and is an exemplary model for the graphic arts industry. Their sponsorship made it possible for us to present and archive this event for our readers.”

Participating on the panel for this session were:

  • Marci Kinter, VP Government Affairs & Business Information, Specialty Graphic Imaging Association (SGIA), Fairfax VA, founding partner of the Sustainable Green Printing Partnership.
  • Maia Becker, Manager of Communications and Client Services, Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) Canada, Toronto ON.
  • Tom Sineath, CEO, T.S. Designs, Burlington NC; T.S. Designs’ vision is “to transform the world we live in, both in small and large measures alike. Creating economic, ecological, and social prosperity while ensuring that future generations have the same opportunity.”

Noted Gail Nickel-Kailing, moderator, “It was obvious that this event touched on issues that are top of mind for a lot of service providers. Using the question/comment tool provided, attendees made these unsolicited comments:

  • Great questions!
  • Informative!
  • Thank you for all of the information provided today!

Our panel members shared their knowledge and expertise, not only as participants in the Earth Day event, but by generously answering a wide range of questions that we couldn’t cover during the session.  Attendees can view the answers to the additional questions on the webinar archive site.”
