Researcher’s Comment
“Trends in advertising, marketing, and media use and consumption
profoundly affect all aspects of graphic communications. What were the top
trends of 2008? What are poised to be the top trends for 2009? What is the
outlook for 1:1 printing? Will 2009 be the year that e-books become a force to
be reckoned with? What is likely to happen with mobile media and marketing?
What about environmentally sustainable printing? And, perhaps most importantly,
what does a sluggish economy mean for the graphic communications markets?
These—and more—are the issues we have been studying and wrestle
with in our Print and Creative Forecast report.” —Richard Romano
According
to the Report
—
In our September 2008 ERC survey, the top three issues that commercial printers
felt they would have to contend with in the next 12 months were “improving

economic conditions.”

agencies surveyed said that “printed materials (traditional)” was the top media
channel they worked on with clients in the past six months; 40% expected their
use of “printed materials” to grow by more than 10% in the next 12 months.
— 42% of commercial printers said
they are “adding new products and services” to deal with the slower economy.
